Flor Perez and Ann Lippincott

The 2015 Peggy Frederickson Fellow Flo Perez with Ann Lippincott of the Teacher Education Program

Flor Perez named the Peggy Fredericksen Fellow;
Lauren C. Ward named the Martha Aldridge Fellow

UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School is pleased to announce two new fellowships to support credential candidates in the Teacher Education Program: the Peggy Fredericksen Fellowship and the Martha Aldridge Memorial Fund.

The Fredericksen Fellowship was established to honor the memory of Peggy Fredericksen, who received her B.A. in Elementary Education from UC Santa Barbara in 1951. While attending UCSB, she met her husband, Donald Fredericksen. Peggy pursued a career teaching elementary school in Santa Barbara and Long Beach before deciding to raise her family full-time. She remained engaged in numerous civic and volunteer roles, including serving on the PTA, the League of Women Voters, and Alpha Phi Sorority’s alumni association, advancing to leadership roles in each. Peggy passed away in January 2013, and this fellowship fund has been created to honor and sustain her memory and passion for K-12 education.

Flor Perez is the recipient of the 2015 Peggy Frederickson Fellowship. Perez is in the Education Specialist Credential program at UCSB’s Teacher Education Program.

Family, friends, and colleagues established the Aldridge Memorial Fund to honor Martha Aldridge, a UCSB staff member from 1961 until her death in 1986. This award is given to a top Gevirtz School graduate to assist with the transition to his/her first teaching position and the beginning of a promising career in elementary education.

Lauren C. Ward is the recipient of the 2015 Martha Aldridge Fellowship. Ward is in the Multiple Subject Credential program at UCSB’s Teacher Education Program.
