California Teacher Education Research and Improvement Network (CTERIN)(link is external)
CTERIN is the comprehensive response of nine University of California campuses to improve the quality and efficiency of California’s educator preparation system. As a state, we are facing an intensifying teacher shortage coupled with a demand for teachers to know more and do more. With over one hundred researchers linked to CTERIN, the UC system is leading efforts to improve our teaching workforce, arguably one of the most important levers to improving the education young people receive.
Hosford Counseling and Psychological Services Clinic
Residents of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, as well as UCSB faculty and staff, may receive mental health services at the Hosford Clinic. All services are offered on a sliding scale basis (insurances are not accepted). Clinicians work with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, family, and group therapy settings.
International Center for School-Based Youth Development (iCSBYD)
The International Center for School-Based Youth Development is a community of researchers devoted to developing a better understanding of the role of school engagement as a protective force in children's lives and that promotes academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being. The Center’s mission is to engage in research that informs educators how to enhance school engagement and thereby promote all students’ social and academic competence. Scholars promote the Center's mission through grant preparation, project evaluation, community networking, conference presentations, and manuscript preparation.
Koegel Autism Center
The Koegel Autism Center is internationally recognized for its innovative autism research and clinical training. The center focuses on the development and implementation of strength-based, motivational interventions and supports for individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders.
The Tina Hansen McEnroe & Paul V. McEnroe Reading & Language Arts Clinic
This clinic serves 1st through 6th grade school students who are experiencing reading and language difficulties. It offers a positive tutorial environment that nurtures students to become life-long readers while helping develop their skills to meet increased reading demands in secondary school, while providing university and research-based literacy and reading assessments and interventions. The clinic also brings a special focus to children diagnosed with mild to moderate learning disabilities or at risk for learning disabilities.
South Coast Writing Project (SCWriP)
The South Coast Writing Project focuses on improving the teaching of writing at every level of education and across all disciplines. Toward that end, SCWriP conducts the Invitational Summer Institute in Composition and Critical Literacy for selected outstanding teachers each summer. These summer institutes develop a cadre of teacher-leaders who conduct open enrollment and school site inservice programs for teachers, schools, school districts, and colleges throughout the central coast region of California. SCWriP teacher-leaders also conduct Young Writers Camps for children throughout our tri-county service area. These camps offer students in grades 3-9 many opportunities to explore the varied facets of writing, regardless of their skill levels, in a supportive and stimulating environment.
