More information: The Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan program is administered by the UCSB Financial Aid office. Please review the UCSB Financial Aid Office Graduate Loans and the Unsubsidized Loans Federal Student Aid for more information. Questions can be directed to the UCSB Financial Aid office TEP advisor.
This loan has low interest rates and does not require credit checks or collateral. Students pay all the interest, although they can have the interest payments deferred until after graduation by capitalizing the interest. This adds the interest payments to the loan balance, increasing the size and cost of the loan. The UCSB Financial Aid office determines the amount students can borrow. The annual maximum per academic year that a student may borrow is $20,500.
This loan is eligible for the Federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness program. Under this program, if you teach full-time for five complete and consecutive academic years in a low-income school or educational service agency, and meet other qualifications, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to a combined total of $17,500 on your Direct Unsubsidized Loan.
Eligibility: U.S. citizens and permanent residents
Award total: Covers all other education costs, no maximum

More information: The Graduate PLUS Loan program is administered by the UCSB Financial Aid office. Please review the UCSB Financial Aid Office Graduate Loans and the PLUS Loan Federal Student Aid webpages for more information. Questions can be directed to the UCSB Financial Aid office TEP advisor.
Federal legislation permits graduate students to borrow through the PLUS (Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students) Loan program. The Graduate PLUS Loan allows graduate students to borrow up to the full cost of education minus other Financial Aid received. A credit check will be performed during the application process. If you have an adverse credit history, you may still receive a Direct PLUS Loan by obtaining an endorser who does not have an adverse credit history.
