Dr. Shane Jimerson of the UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz Graduate School of Education co-authored the second edition of School Crisis Prevention and Intervention: The PREPaRE Model, published by the National Association of School Psychologists in 2016. The book is co-written with S. Brock, A. Nickerson, M. Louvar Reeves, C. Conolly, R. Pesce, and B. Lazzaro.

School Crisis Prevention and Intervention: The PREPaRE Model delineates critical components of school safety and crisis response planning and training and features the latest federal guidance to develop comprehensive school emergency operations plans. The book emphasizes strategies to effectively respond to crises and facilitate recovery and a return to learning through multitiered systems of support, including; assessing the traumatic potential of crisis events and the impact they have on individuals, collaborating with community-based emergency response services, and supporting school staff with care-for-the-caregiver strategies. The second edition includes new specific guidance on topics such as social media management, student-parent reunification, legal issues and confidentiality, support for students with special needs or diverse cultural backgrounds, and memorial planning and activities.
