The McEnroe Reading & Language Arts Clinic at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School will offer a 4-week summer camp for students entering grades 1-7. The program, running July 5th through July 28th, takes place Mondays-Thursdays, 9:00 am-12 pm. Registration is now open.
A team of trained staff – including credentialed teachers and graduate students from the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education – will provide language arts instruction in small-group settings, including engagement in digital literacies (multimedia stories, creating visual/audio texts, etc.), with research-based literacy curriculum.
Special programming this summer includes:
- Reading and performing literature through Reader's Theater
- Integrating literacy-based practices like reading and writing with MakerSpace activities
- Experiencing a living history day curriculum at the historic 1869 Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse.
Parents interested in helping their children maintain their hard-earned academic skills this summer can apply now. The total cost of the summer program is $400. A $25 deposit must be submitted along with the application and will apply toward the total cost of the program.

The Tina Hansen & Paul V. McEnroe Reading and Language Arts Clinic is a state-of-the-art research and teaching institute located within the University of California, Santa Barbara. Its director is Diana Arya, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education. Children in grades 1 through 8 receive intensive, research-based instruction in skills and practices related to fluency, reading comprehension, and various forms and modalities of writing and presenting across the content areas with a particular focus on STEM-related disciplines.
