Heidi Zetzer of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School was elected Chair-Elect for the Supervision and Training Section of the Society of Counseling Psychology, Division 17 (SCP), which is a part of the American Psychological Association (APA). Zetzer will serve on the Executive Board for the 2015- 2017 term with seven other members. Last August, Zetzer received the Outstanding Counseling Supervisor Award from the Supervision & Training Section of SCP.
The Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP), Division 17, was founded in 1946 to bring together psychologists, students, and affiliates dedicated to promoting education and training, scientific investigation, practice, diversity, and public interest in professional psychology. Specifically, the Supervision and Training Section (STS) connects those interested or engaged in training or supervising mental health service providers. STS strives to promote multi-culturally sensitive research, teaching, practice, as well as public interest in therapist training, clinical supervision, and supervisor training. Additionally, this section places a strong emphasis on student and supervisee involvement, providing resources and forums to discuss practical issues arising from training and supervision.
Heidi Zetzer is a Lecturer with Security of Employment (LSOE) in the Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology and the Director of the Hosford Counseling & Psychological Services Clinic, which is the department’s psychology training clinic. The Hosford Clinic provides affordable evidence-based culturally-responsive mental health services to members of the Santa Barbara community. It includes three centers: 1) The Carol Ackerman Positive Psychology Clinic, 2) The Trauma Recovery & Resilience Center, and 3) the Psychology Assessment Center. In addition to running the clinic, Dr. Zetzer teaches practicum and supervision courses, supervises student clinicians and supervisors, and provides psychotherapy to community clients. She also provides continuing education programs on positive psychology, evidence-based practice, cultural competence, and supervision. Dr. Zetzer earned an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Ohio State University in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from UCSB in 1990. She also serves on the Executive Board of the Association of Psychology Training Clinics (APTC).
